Our favourite among these was the option that makes it pulsate to the beats of whatever music you play on the device, creating a party-like atmosphere. It also works when you’re playing games, which is again quite a unique integration. Lastly, the Halo Light serves as an elegant notification light when your phone is placed on a surface facing down.

That said, the device’s feel is as pleasing as its looks. It’s got a perfectly balanced weight distribution, which is especially felt when you’re using it for long time. What also helps is its feather-like 187 grams weight. It is important to note that at just 7.69mm (Emerald Green variant) and 7.76mm (Amber Orange variant) thickness, it’s among the thinnest smartphones available in the market right now.

And the same goes for gaming, where the 120Hz refresh rate enables slick frame rates on supported games. The high refresh rate of this Smart Adaptive Screen also made me realise how stutter-free the user interface is. No matter what task, the visuals and animations were rendered with silky-smooth finesse.

Another aspect of this display that impressed us was its brightness. Its local peak brightness maxes out at 2,100 nits, which makes for stunning HDR visuals. We also tested its outdoor visibility and were thoroughly pleased with it.  The phone can render an overall peak brightness of 1,200 nits, which ensures that everything on the screen is glaringly visible, even under direct sunlight. But sunlight isn’t the only thing that bothers you when outdoors.  It’s awfully frustrating to use your phone when it’s raining and OPPO has covered this aspect as well. The F27 5G comes with ‘Splash Touch’ feature, which recognises finger touches even when the screen is wet. We sprayed a little water on the screen to test this feature and sure enough, it worked flawlessly.

Another aspect of this phone’s display is Smart Eye Protection. You will feel its impact, as we did, when using the phone over long periods. There’s absolutely zero irritation to the eyes, as the display intelligently shifts peak blue light emissions outside the harmful range.

Camera brilliance with mind-blowing AI chops

Photography has always been a strong suit of OPPO’s F series handsets and that hasn’t changed with the F27 5G. But what’s even more exciting is that this is an AI-powered camera system that opens the doors to infinite possibilities. We’ll come to these AI features in a bit but first, let us talk about the phone’s 50MP main camera. High resolution aside, it excels at rendering accurately coloured photos. As you can see in the sample images below, the camera has strong control over the details under all kinds of lighting and this translates to attractive, social media-worthy images almost every time.

My favourite was the new AI Eraser 2.0, which is perfect for removing background distractions from your photos. We used it to remove photobombers as well as unwanted objects from some of our photos and sure enough, it worked like a charm.

There’s even AI Studio, which can turn any photo of yours into a digital avatar or profile picture. It uses Gen AI to generate images in different styles, allowing you to create unique digital personas. It presents you with ample different choices, so you can turn yourself into anything from a superhero to a historical figure in the blink of an eye. The newly added coolest theme in AI Studio is the Traditional Glow and Disco party theme. Our favourite us the Disco party theme that allows you to give your pictures a complete retro vibe.

AI Smart Image Matting 2.0 is also a joy to play around with. With just one tap, you can separate subjects from photos and create stickers out of them.
